October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month In honor of the women in our lives, October brings a special Breast Cancer Awareness Month, reminding all of us to encourage women to undergo screening, or to take ourselves in for that mammogram that is due. Regular mammograms provide major declines in death from breast cancer, and losing a loved one to a preventable illness is a real tragedy. The District of Columbia Department of Health, Project WISH recommends that women 40 and over should have yearly mammograms - unless otherwise recommended by a practitioner.
